Since its foundation in 1926, the Showa Denko Group has been contributing to the development of the chemical industry in Japan, as typified by its success in becoming the first in this country to synthesize ammonia with domestically developed technology and commercialize aluminum smelting.  With electrochemistry as its technical starting point, the Group diversified into various fields, such as inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and metallic materials.  We now provide a wide range of useful products and services that support a modern life-style, including materials and components for the electronics and automobile industries.

The world is undergoing big changes due to the rapid economic growth in emerging countries and the increase in impact on the global environment.  Against this background, the global marketplace calls for development and commercialization of new technologies to fulfill various social needs.  Specifically, it is now required to develop higher-quality electronic devices for more convenience and comfort; take environmental protection measures, including those against global warming, to realize a healthy and safe life-style; and ensure the security of energy supply by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and conserving energy.

In view of such social needs, we have decided to focus on the two business domains of “Energy/Environment” and “Electronics” under our new medium-term consolidated business plan PEGASUS.  We will accelerate the development of cutting-edge materials and components based on our proprietary and superior technologies.  Furthermore, we will promote businesses on a global scale and in many fields, aiming to contribute toward creating society where affluence and sustainability are harmonized.
