History

1964 Fuyo Development Co., Ltd. developed a technology for manufacturing lightweight aggregates by sintering obsidian and pearlite
1970 Aug. This business was taken over by the Fuyo Lite Dept. of Vacuum Concrete Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Fuyo Development Co., Ltd. The department then obtained a permit to mine obsidian in Nagano Prefecture.
1971 Feb. Built the Suwa Plant in Toibashi, Shimo Suwa-cho, Suwa-gun, Nagano Prefecture, Japan and put the plant into operation
1972 and onwards Promoted the development of applications of obsidian as a soil conditioner for tree planting
1973 Mar. Spun off from Vacuum Concrete Co., Ltd. Established Fuyo Lite Co., Ltd.
1973 Apr. Built an additional large kiln (Kiln No. 2) to meet growing demand for building materials, strove to develop applications of obsidian, and extended the sales channels of the products to civil engineering, architectural, iron and steel making, soil conditioning, and other uses
1975 and onwards The company's products extended to a wider range of applications for artificial ground and roof tree-planting, including the Ueno Park, Tokyo
1979 Feb. Built a high-performance large external-heat kiln (Kiln No. 3) to meet growing demand for high-quality fine-grain products
1980 Sep. The company's product, "Fuyo Lite," certified as an "excellent heat-insulation building material" by the Minister of International Trade and Industry
1987 Dec. Replaced the deteriorated Kiln No. 1 with a high-performance large external-heat kiln
1988 Sep. Reinforced Kiln No. 3 in an attempt to increase the production capacity
1992 Sep. Enhanced the stone refinery line and installed additional automatic packing machines, product storage bunkers, and other equipment in an attempt to increase the production capacity and to streamline the process and save labor
1994 Jun. Renamed as "Fuyo Pearlite Co., Ltd."
1994 Nov. Began to produce and sell a new product, a water activating pot ("Kirigamine"
1994 Dec. The share of Showa Denko K.K. increased to 60.38%
