Showa Aluminum Can Certified as Meeting ISO 14001 & 9002

December 5, 2001

Showa Aluminum Can Corporation (SAC), a consolidated subsidiary of Showa Denko K.K., has been certified as meeting the ISO 14001 international standard for environmental management system and ISO 9002 quality system at all of its three plants.

Japan Chemical Quality Assurance Ltd. (JCQA) in Tokyo registered SAC's aluminum can production facilities in Ohmuta Plant on October 22 and in Oyama Plant on November 26, respectively, as meeting ISO 14001. SAC's Hikone Plant already obtained the certificate of compliance in September 2000.

All three SAC plants have already been certified under the ISO 9002 quality assurance system.

SAC is committed to continuous improvement of its environmental management and quality assurance systems, thereby contributing to greater customer satisfaction and environmental protection, through energy conservation, recycling and reuse of materials.

The aluminum can recycling campaign ("Can to Can") by SAC will be broadened and carried on by the entire Showa Denko Group of companies as from 2002.
