SDK To Consolidate Aluminum Building Exterior Subsidiaries

Showa Denko K.K. (SDK) has decided to consolidate its two subsidiaries for the production of aluminum building exteriors effective May 1, 2003.

The two companies to be merged are Showa Aluminum Viewtech Co., Ltd. and Showa Aluminum Exterior Corporation, which are producing building exteriors based on extrusions supplied by SDK.

Showa Aluminum Viewtech, based in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, manufactures and sells flag poles, light poles, highway sound insulation walls, shelters and other aluminum products for urban beautification facilities.

Showa Aluminum Exterior, based in Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, manufactures and sells sun-rooms, carports, greenhouses and other aluminum exteriors for homes.

The name of the new company after the merger will be Showa Aluminum Viewtech Co., Ltd., with estimated annual sales of approx. ¥7 billion. (The capital of the new company is not decided yet.) The new company will aim to grow and strengthen its business by consolidating the technical/market development capabilities and marketing expertise amassed by its predecessors in the different market segments. New products being developed include solar light poles, solar cell holding panels and bamboo-like home fences.

The new company will launch a series of innovative new products in anticipation of fast changing market trends. At the same time, the company will ensure higher profitability and efficiency by integrating sales offices and administrative organizations as well as by establishing optimum production and distribution setups.
