June 15, 2007

Showa Denko K.K. (SDK) has established a scholarship at three Chinese universities, signing relevant agreements with Dalian University of Technology, Liaoning Province, on May 29; Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Province, on June 12; and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Municipality, on June 13, respectively.

This is intended as a measure to deepen SDK’s friendly relations with these universities and to encourage scientific education.

Under the scheme, SDK will award the scholarship every year to a total of around 40 students studying at master courses in chemistry, material science, mechanical engineering, electronics and electrical engineering. The recipient screening procedure will be completed at the three universities by the end of August this year, with the awarding ceremonies scheduled for October.

The Showa Denko Group is carrying out the Passion Project, a three-year consolidated business plan that runs from 2006 through 2008, to promote future growth. Since 2003, SDK has been cooperating with these three universities, employing their new graduates, commissioning research, and sending SDK employees to study there. SDK will continue close cooperation with them as part of its R&D efforts to ensure the Group’s future growth.
